Ms. Wax, with more than two decades of public relations experience, is one of 25 Charlotte area businesswomen selected to receive the Business Journal’s 13th annual Women In Business Achievement Awards, which honor women business leaders with a strong record of innovation or outstanding business performance over the past 12 months.

Ms. Wax was cited for leading LGA to continued strong growth in its PR practice despite the recession by bolstering the agency’s capabilities in areas such as strategic communication for mergers and acquisitions and counseling companies facing corporate crises. She expanded relationships with existing clients and developed new clients in key business categories, including health care, financial services and food products.

“She sees no boundaries,” says LGA founder and Chief Executive Officer Steve Luquire. “She is always willing to challenge any limitations that have been perceived in the past. She makes everyone around her better.”

Before joining LGA in 2006, Ms. Wax was senior vice president / deputy general manager in Chicago at Edelman, the world’s largest independent PR firm, and held executive positions at several other leading agencies in the Midwest. She also is a former feature writer for the Chicago Tribune, high school teacher in Illinois and Wyoming, restaurant owner and manager with her chef-husband Saul, and volunteer for Girls on the Run.

A former guest editor of Mademoiselle magazine, Ms. Wax has a special affinity for marketing to women and stresses the importance of forming collaborative partnerships with her clients. “Public relations is all about building relationships,” she says.

Ms. Wax will be recognized with other winners at a July 16 luncheon and in a special publication in the Charlotte Business Journal on July 17. LGA President and Partner Peggy Brookhouse received the same award in 2007.
