Since joining LGA in 1992, Philip Tate has managed award-winning integrated marketing initiatives for many of the agency’s leading clients, including 3A Composites, Blum, Lincoln Harris, National Gypsum and the Carolina Panthers.
Philip began his tenure at LGA as manager of the Charlotte Organizing Committee for the 1994 NCAA Men’s Final Four Basketball Championship – the highest profile event in college athletics. He worked with a budget of $1.8 million and supervised a volunteer staff of 1,500 while coordinating media, special events, signage and transportation.
Prior to LGA, Philip was senior vice president of Host Communications, a Lexington, Ky.-based sports marketing firm. During his nine-year tenure with Host in its Lexington, Dallas and Charlotte offices, Philip directed the company’s public relations efforts while managing several award-winning publications and syndicated radio and television programming.
Philip currently serves as treasurer on the national board of directors for the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Prior to that, he served as the Southeast district director of PRSA and has held various leadership positions, including president of PRSA’s Charlotte chapter. In 2002, he received his Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Universal Accreditation Board and remains deeply involved in his local accreditation program.
Away from the office, Philip has served as volunteer chair for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte Y-Guides Program, a father-child program for more than 3,000 families, which ranks as one of the largest programs of its kind in the U.S. He also has spearheaded local fundraising campaigns for the American Heart Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Philip graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a double minor in political science and history. When he is not spending time with his wife, Brenda, and their two daughters, Meredith and Morgan, Philip enjoys playing basketball, reading, gardening and answering sports, music and movie trivia questions.
