LGA team shares industry advice with UNC students

The LGA team is seizing the opportunity to connect with eager, young minds in our community by giving students a behind-the-scenes look at life in the advertising, public relations and social media industries.

A group of students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Media and Journalism stopped by LGA recently to learn from our team about everything from engaging with potential employers to building networks within the industries they aspire to soon enter.

For several Tar Heel alumni like Group Creative Director / Copywriter Ryan Coleman, Account Executive Amanda Gurkin and Content Strategist Lizzie Pope, it was a chance to give back to their alma mater in a valuable way. The group dished on how to best prepare for the transition from school life to the workforce, what their daily roles and responsibilities are here at LGA, and the importance of maintaining a professional network by building upon their connections with peers and mentors theyve already made at UNC.

Several LGA employees who are not UNC alumni, including PR Senior Account Executive Natalie Bailey, Media Planner / Buyer Krystin Dunbar, Account Executive Taryn Huson and Senior Vice President Philip Tate, spoke to the group as well, providing a different perspective about life in the industry, the unique paths that led them to their individual roles now and how their work fulfills and challenges them every day. The group also touched on the importance of focusing on the type of career you truly want, never shying away from a new opportunity and always remaining open to potential career changes as time goes on.
